White and Ivory was my Senior Thesis Collection at the conclusion of my four years at Kent State University. The inspiration behind this rather large collection is both pure, yet complex. Every woman who marries wears her dress for one day: that's it. I wanted the foundation of White and Ivory to be the continuation of the life of that gown: re-purposed lingerie pieces made from pieces of the wedding dress.
Now, I took it upon myself as part of my thesis research to survey some women. I asked a group of twenty-four women two questions that would either make or break my business model: "Would you be alright with turning your wedding dress into beautiful, timeless lingerie pieces once you were through with it?", and "Did you have any alterations at all made to your gown you chose?" Out of the twenty-four women I had surveyed, sixteen of them said "yes" to transforming their dress into undergarments, four said "absolutely not", and another four said they would have to think about it longer. Another nineteen of them claimed they had alterations done to their dress. I then proposed the idea of making the lingerie pieces out of the SCRAP fabric taken from alterations. ALL the women in my survey said they would be interested in that. I then took my research one step further and found out what the most common bridal alterations are. I sued my findings to measure the piees of scrap to create patterns from those pieces. I had to keep in mind that alterations vary in size, so from one woman's dress I may be able to create and bra and panty set, but from others, I may only be able to create an eyemask. The collection you are about to see if my final product of research, collecting scrap wedding dresses, and giving them a new life. Please enjoy |
